Letter: Power engaged through deception

The Columbian
Published: October 26, 2013, 5:00pm

The failure of the U.S. media is truly profound. Be it local or national, it is still a failure. There is seldom an honest dialogue about any issue, be it coal, oil, politics, debt or religion. I don’t subscribe to the theory that the media simply have become stupid. I think the reason is intellectual dishonesty. The media pander to the “politically correct” ideology and its bogus talking points. They should disregard the bogus talking points and speak or write the truth and possibly be of service to the citizens.

Politics is an area that is truly abused. It’s mind boggling to read so much deception and dishonesty in the media. There seems to be a complete lack of any responsibility for deception.

A case in The Columbian is that Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt and opponent Bill Turlay are not accurately portrayed. Instead of showing each candidate’s history, capabilities, track record and vision truthfully, we get deception. The Columbian doesn’t have a vote. The Columbian attempts to tell residents who they should vote for. That is not its job. Why does it do it? Because it is intellectually dishonest? When you want to help people, you tell them the truth. When you attempt to deceive, you are helping yourself.
