Letter: Moderation will win the day

I’m now in hope that my congressional representative, Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, would have the courage to cast a vote against the wishes of the Tea Party and now she did. Good for her. There is a chance we are finding the beginnings of a moderate-thinking Republican, one who will think twice before cutting once.

I’m 76 and supposed to be one of the old codgers who live and breathe the Republican agenda, but I thought twice about the direction of the party since ultraconservatives and evangelicals began controlling the party. We see examples of their ministrations at present. Despite every positive move made by President Obama, up to now most all Republicans vote along party lines. Fortunately, Herrera Beutler broke that rule and if she keeps up the moderation — and we can get a few more moderates to join — we can really get our country back to its greatness.

If she keeps it up she’ll get my vote on re-election.
