ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Veteran designated hitter Lance Berkman has been activated from the disabled list by the Texas Rangers, who also reinstated three pitchers Sunday on the first day rosters could expand.

Berkman has been out since July 7 with left hip inflammation and soreness in his surgically repaired right knee.

The pitchers activated from the DL were right-handers Neftali Feliz and Nick Tepesch, and left-hander Michael Kirkman.

Texas purchased the contract of outfielder/first baseman Jim Adduci (uh-DOO-see), who after 10 minor league seasons was starting in left field Sunday against Minnesota for his major league debut.

Right-hander Cory Burns and catcher Robinson Chirinos were recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.

Outfielder Joe Benson was designated for assignment and right-hander Justin Miller given his unconditional release.
