EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene police have accused a 17-year-old boy of tampering with panels inside the lavatory of a flight arriving at Eugene Airport.

Cathryn Stephens, a spokeswoman for the airport, told the Register-Guard that a pilot on the Allegiant Air from Mesa, Ariz., reported the incident Monday, and police escorted the teenager off the plane.

Other passengers were held for about 45 minutes while police secured the plane and did interviews.

Stephens says FBI agents questioned by teenager but decided he had mental health issues and decided not to press federal charges. Eugene police filed charges of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
