Construction is underway on a 99-room Hampton Inn and Suites on the northeastern border of the former Evergreen Airport site at Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard and 136th Avenue.
The project is being developed by B52 Point of Evergreen, a Vancouver company affiliated with the developers of Chuck’s Produce and Street Market. The project was designed by Salem, Ore.-based Lenity Architecture. A written statement from the company said the project is scheduled to be completed in 12 months.
The 57-acre airfield was closed in 2006, when it was purchased by Seattle-based Opus Northwest for upscale retail development with stores such as Crate & Barrel and other service and lodging development. Those plans changed with the ensuing recession. B52 purchased the site for $10.5 million in 2011 and has made street and infrastructure improvements. The company declines to say whether it plans to launch additional projects on the site.
