SEATTLE (AP) — Former Washington coach Don James has undergone two surgeries at a Seattle hospital for gastro-intestinal issues.

The school issued a statement on behalf of James’ family on Thursday. James was admitted to Virginia Mason Medical Center on Monday and doctors believe the two surgical procedures were successful.

The statement, issued by the family to stem speculation regarding James’ health, says he remains in the hospital and is resting comfortably.

The 80-year-old James coached at Washington from 1975-1992 and led the Huskies to a share of the 1991 national championship. James went 153-57-2 with the Huskies and led the school to six Rose Bowl appearances.
