Lightning struck a motorcyclist driving north on Interstate 5 in Lewis County Thursday morning.

The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. near I-5 north milepost 76 in Chehalis, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The man was struck by lightning but didn’t crash and took the next exit off the highway, said Trooper Will Finn, spokesman for WSP. A car behind the motorcyclist also took the exit and called 911.

When troopers and first responders arrived the motorcycle driver appeared to have burns to his face and trouble hearing but was up and walking around, Finn said.

“He appeared to be doing remarkably well,” for being stuck by lightning, Finn said.

The man was sent to an area hospital to be treated. His name, age and hometown are not available at this time.
