Letter: Acts of terror ceaseless

I see many Christians rallying around Israel in this time. I find it odd that any Christian would rally for Israel. When one Googles “The Lavon Affair” and the “USS Liberty” you will read about true acts of terror, knowingly perpetrated on the United States by Israel.

The Lavon Affair was a thwarted effort in 1954 to bomb a movie theater with U.S. dignitaries in attendance. It was found out and is known as Operation Susannah. The blame for the bombing, had it actually exploded, was to be placed on Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood.

The USS Liberty was a naval ship that was systematically and knowingly attacked in 1967 by Israeli jets over a period of two days during the Six-Day War. It was first claimed as an accident, then Israel reversed its claim and apologized — receiving no punishment in a world court. In fact, in a stomach-turning twist, the pilots were given medals.

Now the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, Israel’s deep-pocketed lobby, does, indeed, want President Obama to bomb Syria. Are we going to learn from the Lavon Affair and the USS Liberty? I place all my bets on that not happening.

I want no war in Syria.
