Wire Funds wins Monmouth Park allowance race

OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) — Charles Fisher’s Wire Funds raced to a front-running, two-length victory over favored Mister Lucky Cat in the $40,000 allowance feature at Monmouth Park on Saturday.

Trained by Jorge Navarro and ridden by Paco Lopez, Wire Funds ran the 512 furlongs over firm turf in 1:02. The 5-year-old gelding paid $6.60, $3 and $2.60 as the second choice in the field of eight colts and geldings.

Mister Lucky Cat returned $2.40 and $2.40. It was another four lengths back to Respighi, who paid $3.80 to show.
