A La Center woman was injured Monday evening in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 502 that police say was caused by a driver falling asleep at the wheel.

Around 5:30 p.m., Sonny Shumaker, 41, of Cougar was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup eastbound on Highway 502 at Northeast 42nd Avenue, about two miles west of Battle Ground. He was allegedly asleep at the wheel when he struck a 2005 Toyota Corolla, according to the Washington State Patrol. The Corolla was pushed into a 2011 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Vincent Strano, 37, of Yacolt.

The driver of the Corolla, Cindy Over, 46, was injured and transported to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. Shumaker and Strano were uninjured.

The State Patrol charged Shumaker with second-degree negligent driving.
