Jets bring back QB Brady Quinn

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have re-signed quarterback Brady Quinn, as expected, two days after releasing him.

Quinn, signed last week to provide rookie Geno Smith with a veteran backup, was cut Saturday because it prevented his contract from being guaranteed. Fully vested veterans had their contracts guaranteed for the season if they remained on rosters at 4 p.m. EDT Saturday.

The move also came before the opener Sunday because coach Rex Ryan prefers to not have three quarterbacks in uniform, and Matt Simms is currently Smith’s backup. Mark Sanchez is “day to day” with a shoulder injury, but could miss several weeks.

To make room for Quinn, the Jets released linebacker Danny Lansanah from the active roster Monday. New York also signed wide receiver Rahsaan Vaughn to the practice squad.
