It's been reported that the city of Vancouver has a $120 million backlog of deferred street maintenance.
I believe the city of Vancouver has attempted to lose small town mentality and hold the pretense of a large city. It forgot or never knew annexing land does not add to the wealth of its citizens and that revenue drawn from the annexation has to be expended on upkeep of the annexation.
The problem is that everything going into the general fund is directed to pie-in-the-sky river-view projects and inadequate downtown renewal. If Officers Row along Evergreen Boulevard is putting our best foot forward, something is amiss.
Whoever had a hand in annexing road beds or water systems that do not meet city standards should be pastured.
