LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) — Before the U.S. skeleton team gets on the ice, it will be getting into the wind.

Four U.S. Olympic hopefuls will test the team’s latest sled, the ProtoStar V5, at a wind tunnel in Mooresville, N.C. Two-time Olympian Katie Uhlaender, 2010 Olympian John Daly and World Cup sliders Matt Antoine and Kyle Tress will test it Thursday and Friday.

U.S. coach Tuffy Latour says the team will have “the best equipment going into the Olympic season.” American sliders are expected to be among medal favorites at the Sochi Games in February, especially on the women’s side with a team led by Uhlaender and Noelle Pikus-Pace, both former world champions.

The U.S. skeleton, bobsled and luge teams plan to start on-ice training in Lake Placid, N.Y, on Oct. 1.
