KEARNS, Utah (AP) — U.S. Speedskating has hired a former marketing executive with experience helping other winter Olympic sports as its new executive director.

Ted Morris was announced Tuesday as the successor to Mark Greenwald, a two-time Olympian whose three-year tenure was marked by budget woes and reports of organizational infighting.

Morris says it’s “a crucial time period” for both U.S. Speedskating and its athletes heading into the Sochi Olympics in February. The sport is the most successful in U.S. Winter Olympics history with 85 medals.

He comes from Van Wagner Sports and Entertainment, where he was the company’s senior vice president.

Morris has previously worked with the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and the U.S. Figure Skating Association. He has provided marketing consultation for some U.S. Olympic sponsors.
