A man wielding a gun and claiming to be carrying a bomb robbed a motel in Woodland early Saturday morning, according to the Woodland Police Department.

The robbery occurred about 3:20 a.m. at the Quality Inn, 1380 Atlantic Ave., police said.

The robber confronted a desk clerk with a gun and threatened that a small black package he was carrying contained a bomb, according to a police bulletin. He took a small, undisclosed amount of cash from the register, tied up the clerk and left.

Surveillance video shows the man was wearing a tight-fitting blue long-sleeve shirt, black slacks and a blue winter hat with the ear flaps pulled down over a white hockey-style mask, police said.

A police tracking dog followed the robber’s scent to where investigators believe he got into a waiting vehicle and left. It is not known if the robber had an accomplice.

Police asked that anyone who has information on the robbery or thinks they recognize the suspect contact the Woodland Police Department at 360-225-6965 or 360-225-8981.
