DENTON, Texas (AP) — Derek Thompson threw for 274 yards and rushed 72 yards to lead North Texas to a 34-27 come-from-behind win over Ball State Saturday.

North Texas (1-1) struggled early as Ball State (2-1) sprinted to a 20-3 lead in the first quarter.

Ball State combined offense and defense to get out front as Keith Wenning tossed a 2-yard touchdown pass to Willie Snead, Horactio Banks added a 77-yard touchdown run and Brian Jones scooped up a fumble, returning it 3 yards for another score.

The Mean Green relied on the foot of Zack Paul to keep them in the game as he made field goals of 48, 22, 47 and 19 yards.

North Texas first touchdown came late in the first half when Thompson hit Brelan Chancellor on a 25-yard pass. The Mean Green took the lead when Thompson scored on a 26-yard run with 9:47 left in the game.
