Sam Houston St. rolls past Texas Southern 55-17

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Timothy Flanders ran for 108 yards and two touchdowns as Sam Houston State ran away from visiting Texas Southern 55-17 Saturday.

The Bearkats (2-1) pulled ahead in the second quarter, taking advantage of three recovered fumbles and scoring on their final four possessions of the half. Both of Flanders’ scores followed Texas Southern turnovers and put the Bearkats ahead 27-3.

Brian Bell finished 9 of 17 for 121 yards with two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. He also ran for 32 yards and a score.

Daveonn Porter rushed for 104 yards on 16 carries for Texas Southern (0-2), including a 50-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Shane Young had 51 yards receiving, including a five-yard touchdown and Richard Sincere added 3 catches for 53 yards for the Bearkats.

Keshawn Hill ran seven times for 65 yards and a score for Sam Houston State, which finished with 326 rushing yards.
