The body of a man recovered from the Willamette River on Thursday morning has been positively identified as a former Clark County resident.

Lawrence Hauser, 50, of West Linn, Ore., went missing while swimming in the Willamette River on Saturday evening near the South Waterfront District. He was reportedly trying to swim across the river with a woman. A boater heard their cries for help and was able to find the woman and help her onto his boat, but lost sight of Hauser. Search and rescue crews from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and the Portland Fire Bureau extensively searched the area of the river where he was last seen by the boater.

Hauser's body was found floating in the river Thursday morning by a fisherman near Zidell Marine. There were no signs of foul play, and the cause of death is still pending, according to the Multnomah County Medical Examiner's Office.
