BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Three-time Olympic gold medalist Kaori Icho of Japan and Iranian world champion Hamid Soryan Reihanpour will help lead an athlete’s commission for wrestling’s international governing body.

FILA announced the wrestlers named to the new seven-member commission on Sunday.

The organization had promised the IOC that it would get athletes more involved in its decision making during its successful push to remain in the Olympic Games. President Nenad Lalovic says the commission is part of a “new direction” for FILA.

The commission also includes Maria Prevolaraki of Greece, American Jake Herbert, Canadian Carol Huynh, Christophe Guenot of France and Hungarian Tomas Lorincz.

They were voted onto the commission by their peers during the World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
