Letter: Kids just need something to do

Read the Sept. 18 story “Daily standoffs at 420 Gate. Hangout spot near Mountain View High School riles neighbors” and take a look at these kids in the picture. From appearances they seem like everyday kids. They’re not bad; these kids you see are bored.

Children are the responsibility of the parents and the community. Our police department is not hired to babysit. Shooing these kids away is not the answer. They aren’t flies. They need to work. They should be given chores. You know, cut the grass, take out the trash, etc.

But also they should be getting ready to become self-sustaining individuals. So instead of chasing them from one situation to another, befriend them. They are our future. It takes a whole village to raise a child.
