Prep football player of the week: Leon Siofele, Union

Leon Siofele of Union was voted The Columbian’s high school football player of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Sept. 21.

Siofele collected 37 percent of the 1,049 votes cast by fans to beat out Preston Jones of Mountain View, who had 30 percent.

Siofele rushed 27 times for 239 yards and three touchdowns in Union’s 30-24 win over Peninsula.

The other nominess were Rey Green of Evergreen, Ronnie Evenden of Prairie and Bobby Jacobs of Washougal.

Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Saturday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Players may be elected player of the week once per month, and no player can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
