HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Timothy Flanders rushed for 280 yards and two touchdowns, reaching 5,000 yards for his career, to lead Sam Houston State to a 49-34 win over Eastern Washington on Saturday.

The only thing that slowed Flanders was a rainstorm that delayed the start of the showdown between two top five FBC teams for more than an hour.

The teams combined for 1,052 yards after piling up 1,026 last year when Sam Houston (4-1) beat the Eagles (2-2) 45-42 in the FBC semifinals.

Sam Houston had 450 yards on the ground, with Richard Sincere adding 98, including a 51-yard score on the third play of the game. Brian Bell threw for two touchdowns to Torrance Williams and ran for a third.

Vernon Adams threw for 355 yards and touchdowns covering 33, 59 and 62 yards for Eastern Washington. However, DeAntrey Loche returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown for SHSU.
