Turnovers haunted Hockinson in the second half, including a fumble as the Hawks were driving for a potential winning score late in the fourth quarter as River Ridge won 17-14 on Saturday in Lacey.

After Hockinson trailed 7-0 at halftime, Jess Krahn gave Hockinson a 14-7 lead with touchdown runs of 16 and 2 yards in the third quarter.

As Hockinson held onto its lead, the Hockinson defense twice turned River Ridge away on downs inside the Hockinson 10-yard line.

However an interception gave River Ridge a third shot, which the Hawks from Lacey converted into a tying touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

A Chris Behnke field goal with 6:21 left gave River Ridge a 17-14 lead.

Hockinson got the ball on its own 43-yard line with three minutes to go and drove deep into River Ridge territory before one last fumble killed Hockinson’s comeback hopes.

River Ridge’s defense sacked Krahn about 10 times.
