Junior hockey: Winterhawks thump Thunderbirds

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored four goals as the Portland Winterhawks routed the Seattle Thunderbirds 10-4 in Western Hockey League action on Saturday at the Moda Center.

Portland built a 9-0 lead before Seattle got on the board in the third period.

Adam De Champlain and Nic Petan added two goals each. Garrett Haar was in on four assists, and Adam Rossignol and Chase De Leo had three assists each.

Brendan Burke stopped 34 of 38 shots faced.

Vipers lose — Cody Dettman scored the Vancouver Vipers first goal of their North Pacific Hockey League season, but Vancouver was routed for a second night at Bremerton, falling to West Sound 16-1.
