VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Eric Hoffman hit Andrew Cassara for an 11-yard touchdown in overtime to lead Valparaiso over Campbell 49-42.

Campbell had a chance to tie and force a second overtime, but Brian Hudson was stopped on fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line to secure the victory for the Crusaders.

In a back-and-forth affair, Valparaiso (1-3, 1-0 Pioneer League) did its damage through the air, with Hoffman throwing for 407 yards and four touchdowns. Campbell (1-3, 0-1) used a multi-faceted ground game, with five different backs rushing for more than 35 yards. The rushing attack was led by Kurt Odom, who generated 91 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns.

Campbell forced overtime with Odom’s second touchdown, a 14-yard carry with 2:42 left. The Fighting Camels then moved to the Valparaiso 45-yard line with five seconds remaining in regulation, but Hudson’s pass to the goal line was intercepted by Dale Cook to ensure overtime.
