A suspected intoxicated driver crashed into a Vancouver police officer’s vehicle Wednesday afternoon, according to agency spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

A witness in the 1400 block of Grand Boulevard, just north of East Mill Plain Boulevard, reported that the driver of a gray vehicle appeared to be having a medical issue, Kapp said.

An officer caught up with the vehicle and tried to conduct a traffic stop using emergency lights and horns. The driver didn’t pull over and drifted over the centerline.

When the officer got in front of the vehicle in an attempt to slow it down, Kapp said, his patrol vehicle was rear-ended by the vehicle around 12:50 p.m.

The driver, whom Kapp said showed signs of impairment, was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. The name of the driver was not released.

The officer did not appear to be hurt, Kapp said.

The agency’s traffic unit is investigating the crash.
