WSU Vancouver honors Women of Distinction

Three women were honored for inspiring, mentoring and empowering others at Washington State University’s sixth-annual Women of Distinction celebration March 27.

o High school award: Lauren Clark, a senior at Columbia River High School, is an accomplished math student, a member of Advancement Via Individual Determination, a tutor and speaker who encourages students to further their education. Clark also has led many Girl Scouts activities.

o WSU Vancouver student award: Kim Stewart is a graduate student in the master’s of accounting program. Through the Institute of Management/Beta Alpha Psi Honor Society, she empowers students to give back to the community. Additionally, she is a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor.

o Nonstudent award: Brenda Alling, director of marketing and communications at WSU Vancouver, mentors women on campus in professional skills, writing, conflict resolution and work-life balance. She also mentors interns and campus media organizations. As a volunteer adviser, she helped resurrect the VanCougar student newspaper after a hiatus.
