Author to speak on mining impacts

A free forum this month will focus on the impacts of industrial mining, including exploratory drilling now underway near Mount St. Helens.

Bill Carter, author of "Boom, Bust, Boom: A Story of Copper, The Metal That Runs the World," will speak about the nation's reliance on copper and its environmental and economic impact on communities including Southwest Washington.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in Room 110 of the Dengerink Administration Building of Washington State University Vancouver, 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave.

The event is sponsored by the Gifford Pinchot Task Force and WSUV's Center for Social and Environmental Justice.
