The city of Washougal launched a new tourism website this week, hoping to draw more visitors to the area.

Highlighted prominently at the top of the homepage for visitwashougal.com is a carousel showcasing the “top 10” local attractions of the area, including: the Pendelton Woolen Mill, Cape Horn, the Steigerwald National Wildlife Refuge and downtown Washougal. The site also features information about shopping, dining, lodging and events in Washougal.

“The site is packed with beautiful images of our area, from Cape Horn to downtown to Marina Park,” Mayor Sean Guard said in a statement released by the city.

Local businesses can use the site’s free listing service, and the site also offers a place for local organizations to promote their upcoming events.

The site is the main piece of the city’s new strategy for tourism promotion. The city commissioned Rene Carroll, a local marketing and communications consultant, to lead the project, and hired D.Studio 21, Inc. to put together the site. Funding for the project came from lodging tax revenue.
