Free training to help chefs cut the salt




Clark County Public Health is hosting a free culinary training for local chefs who want to enhance flavor and reduce sodium.

The training is open to chefs from locally owned, independent restaurants in Clark County and will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Clark College Columbia Tech Center, 18700 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd.

The instructor is chef Garrett Berdan, a registered dietitian who offers culinary workshops for professional cooks across the country. He is the past president of the Oregon Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

The training is sponsored by Clark County Public Health, with funding from a three-year Sodium Reduction in Communities grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
