Letter: Facts helpful when not ignored

In his April 9 letter, “Tired of lame defense strategy,” Robert Kerr states that if he disagrees with the president, he is labeled a racist, and he is “so tired of this lame defense, even though the record and facts are correct.” Is Kerr saying that the “record and facts” should be ignored?

Kerr is wrong to say “every white person” or “everyone who disagrees with the president” is automatically labeled a racist, but it is true that some of today’s loudest voices — often from religious or conservative extremists — perpetually ask us to disregard the facts in favor of someone’s narrow belief.

If Kerr really wants everyone to “get along much better,” I suggest he quit worrying about what “defense strategy” is being used, and pay attention to the facts, not ignore them.
