YAKIMA — The Yakima City Council has approved an exemption to a ban on pit bull dogs in the city. They'll be allowed as service animals.
The council approved the exemption Tuesday night on the advice of city attorneys who said the ban violated the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Yakima Herald-Republic reports pit bulls used as service dogs must be registered with the city and restrained on a leash and muzzled in public.
The council voted in December to uphold a ban on pit bulls as dangerous dogs.
