Woman will celebrate 100th birthday Saturday

Andresen: Virginia Rose Rouse was born April 21, 1914 in Nevada, Iowa. She will celebrate her 100th birthday with family and friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Jake’s Bar and Grill, 4602 N.E. St. Johns Road.

Rouse and her family moved to Portland during World War II. She worked as a welder at the Kaiser shipyard on Swan Island, Ore.After moving to Vancouver in the early 1950s, she worked as a meat wrapper for 19 years at the Safeway store at 38th and Main streets.

She was married twice, to Simeon Twedell and Harold Rouse; both have died. One son, Dennis Twedell, died in 1990. Her other son, Larry Twedell, and his wife Pat, live in Bend, Ore. She has two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
