Letter: ACA will endure as positive change

Regarding Ray Mongrain’s April 11 letter, “Millions of others have lost choices,” I will agree on one thing from Mongrain, 7 million plus were new to insurance. In this debate, it really depends on what party you support. His rhetoric comes straight from the conservatives.

The term “Obama would not allow the coverage they already had and wanted” is rhetoric. The Affordable Care Act deemed plans not sufficient, required pre-existing conditions be covered, as well as colonoscopies and annual mammograms. The coverage is better today than any other time in my life. Americans had a choice to shop the plans. If they choose not to shop, they probably did pay more, but to state it is because of the law is pure recklessness.

Mongrain questioned how much Obama’s socialized medical coverage will increase next year. As an administrator reviewing the increases in employer-sponsored plans since 2000, costs are not going to go up at 45 percent a year due to the ACA. The requirement within the law does not allow greedy insurance companies to make extreme profits off the backs of sick Americans.

Review all aspects of this positive influence across America, and you will learn most Americans are pretty happy they have an option to have health insurance over not having health insurance.

It truly is a pity Mongrain can’t see that.
