Letter: Base vote on candidate’s knowledge

I would like to express my concern about the April 11 letter “Top choice among officers is Atkins,” from Deputy Brian Ellithorpe endorsing Chuck Atkins for Clark County Sheriff. In my experience, most employees, when asked who they would prefer to be their new boss, would choose based upon popularity, friendship, personality or other factors not wholly related to leadership.

Clark County needs a new sheriff. We need a sheriff who is selected by the voters based upon their knowledge of who will do the best job of enforcing the laws of our government. The county does not need the winner of a popularity contest.
