PORTLAND (AP) — A man accused of shooting a Portland police officer and his canine partner was released from the hospital and booked into jail Saturday.

The Portland Police Bureau said Paul Alan Ropp, 20, was booked on charges of assault, animal abuse, attempted aggravated murder and other crimes.

Police said he was one of three men involved in a multi-week crime spree that ended Wednesday morning when their vehicle crashed while eluding officers.

Investigators said Ropp ran from the vehicle, and an exchange of gunfire followed. Officer Jeffrey Dorn suffered gunshot wounds to his legs, and his canine partner, Mick, died from a bullet wound.
