Volunteers have opportunities to mark Earth Day

The Columbian
Published:

A pair of volunteer events this week will offer residents service opportunities to celebrate Earth Day, which was Tuesday.

Youth volunteers will work from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday to pick up litter and clean a section of Vancouver’s Burnt Bridge Creek Trail. Participants will meet at the North Devine Road trailhead, where the trail intersects with Devine Road just south of East 18th Street. The event is part of a monthly series of community service projects for teenagers. Anyone participating should bring signed parent permission slips and weather-appropriate clothing, according to the city.

On Saturday at 2 p.m., volunteers of all ages will gather at the city’s Blandford Canyon area to remove invasive English ivy. Participants will meet near the southwest corner of North Blandford Drive and MacArthur Boulevard. Gloves and snacks will be provided, according to the city.
