Fisher-Mill Plain — A Vancouver family was responsible for helping give the largest single donation of pet food ever to the Humane Society of Southwest Washington.

The Wallingford family, mom Kari and siblings Jared and Alicia, are in their fifth year organizing the Julie Reamer Memorial Pet Food Drive, created in memory of their friend and neighbor who died in 2009.

It’s since turned into a friendly competition between students at Felida Elementary School, Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Jason Lee Middle School. The schools brought in 4,238 pounds of food, donated on April 10 to help feed the 8,000 animals that come through the shelter each year.

Jared is a fifth-grader at Felida Elementary, and Alicia is a seventh-grader at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.
