A Gresham, Ore., man suspected of driving while intoxicated seriously injured a bicyclist in Vancouver on Sunday evening, according to police.

Nicholas Badger, 28, made his first court appearance Monday on a charge of vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated.

Vancouver police say Badger was driving an SUV south on Norris Road about 8:30 p.m. Sunday when he failed to stop at the intersection of East 18th Street. He struck bicyclist Todd A. Webb, 48, of Vancouver, who was riding on 18th Street, according to court documents filed in the case.

Webb suffered injuries to his head and neck and was listed in satisfactory condition Monday evening in PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center’s intensive care unit.

Badger voluntarily performed and failed a standard field sobriety test and registered a blood alcohol content of 0.191, according to court documents.

Badger’s bail was set at $50,000 and his arraignment was scheduled for Aug. 13.
