Letter: Both parties at fault on ACA

The Columbian
Published: August 6, 2014, 12:00am

In reading the July 27 editorial “Obamacare still in a fog,” I have to say that I appreciated the criticism towards both the Republican Democratic parties. I have no great love for Obamacare, and I have no desire to see it succeed.

What did the Democrats think would happen by ramming this legislation through? At the same time, the Republicans are not without fault. They need to focus more on making themselves useful to their constituents, and less on political victories that fix nothing.

Then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s, D-Calif., idea that Obamacare would fare better if they could just get it passed is nonsense. A law of this magnitude ought to be fully explored. Who knows? Maybe with real good-faith research, the Republicans could have even eventually been on board with Obamacare.
