Letter: Pets should never be left in hot cars

Regarding the continued idiocy of leaving dogs in cars in the heat of summer, perhaps we need a different educational campaign approach. First, let’s take the animals away from the offenders. Let them be adopted out to folks who will care for them in a humane, thoughtful fashion.

Secondly, let’s have the pet “owner” experience the reality of the situation. Have the offender sit inside the vehicle in the same temperature for the same period of time, with the windows barely cracked and no water available. Perhaps some people only learn experientially.

Considering that law enforcement recently admitted they are hesitant to even ticket these people, this will never happen. However, it is food for thought in a just world.
