KENNEWICK — The owner of a boat that sank last summer in the Columbia River near the Tri-Cities was sentenced to 20 days in jail.

The Washington attorney general’s office and Benton County prosecutor’s office say Brandon Traner pleaded guilty Wednesday in Kennewick to abandoning a derelict vessel and polluting state waters. He’ll also have to pay restitution, which will be determined at hearing September.

KVEW reports that Traner’s vessel, called the Forus, sank in the middle of the Columbia River in July 2013 with fuel and of motor oils on board.

The state spent more than $100,000 to remove and dispose of the Forus.
