ALLSTON, Mass. — Portland Thorns FC attempted a club record 15 shots on goal, and forward Christine Sinclair became the third player in National Women’s Soccer League history to register 10 or more shots in a match, but the Thorns could not overcome a two-goal halftime deficit in a 2-0 loss against the Boston Breakers at Harvard Stadium on Sunday.

The Thorns (9-8-6, 33 points) remain in fourth place in the NWSL standings with just one game remaining on the regular-season schedule.

In the race for the final two postseason berths, the Washington Spirit, Chicago Red Stars, Western New York Flash and Sky Blue FC all mathematically remain able to claim a spot.

Rachel Wood and Heather O’Reilly each scored for Boston (5-15-2, 17 points) in the first half.

Portland peppered Boston goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher with 13 shots, including 10 on goal, in the second half and finished with a 20-8 advantage overall in the match.

Naeher kept Portland off the board with 10 saves.

The Thorns return to the Rose City for their regular-season finale against Pacific Northwest-rival Seattle Reign FC on Sunday, Aug. 17.
