SANDY, Ore. (AP) — The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says four people were killed when a car crashed into a tree and burned early Monday north of Sandy.
The sheriff’s office says it happened about 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Southeast Lusted Road and Southeast Hudson Road.
Deputy Ben Frazier says a neighbor who reported the crash helped a backseat passenger escape the vehicle. Flames engulfed the rest of the car and three other people were unable to escape.
Frazier says the injured passenger was airlifted to a Portland hospital where he died of his injuries.
A dog escaped the vehicle and was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital. Frazier says a reading of its microchip is being used to possibly identify at least one vehicle occupant.
