Approximately 28 percent of Clark County voters turned in ballots for the Aug. 5 primary election.
Washougal resident Mike Briggs, candidate for 18th District state representative, was among those candidates who will move on to the November general election.
Briggs, a Democrat, won the top-two primary and will challenge incumbent Brandon Vick, a Republican. According to the latest election results released Friday, Briggs has 37.97 percent of the vote, while Vick captured 35.19. The third challenger, Republican John Ley, earned 26.84 percent.
Vick, originally elected in 2012, is attempting to earn his second term in office.
Meanwhile, in the race for Clark County Sheriff, Republican Chuck Atkins and non-partisan candidate Shane Gardner will move on to compete in the general election. Atkins earned 42.43 percent of the vote in the primary, while Gardner captured 31.75 percent.
In the Third District U.S. representative race, incumbent Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Camas) won the primary handily with 48.84 percent of the vote. She will face Democrat Bob Dingethal, of Ridgefield, in the general election. The third candidate, Washougal resident and Republican Michael Delavar, earned 13.21 percent.
