Letter: Sowell’s notion lacks sense

In his Aug. 5 column, “Stances on Israel, immigrants typify post-thinking era,” Thomas Sowell pushes the notion that we’re living in an era of “post-thinking.”

On the issue of minimum wages, he compares the liberal desire for higher minimum wages to Switzerland’s low unemployment with no minimum wage, implying that our “thinking” is wrong, or is “non-thinking.” Never mind that the Swiss economy is very highly specialized, and posted a per capita income of $80,000 in 2013. When their economy was stuttering in 2012, they promoted private consumption by enacting meaningful wage increases, and increased government spending on infrastructure and education.

I question how Sowell can use one of the most liberal economies on the planet to point out liberal non-thinking here in the USA. One wonders who the real non-thinker is.
