WENATCHEE — Heavy rain fell Thursday morning over north central Washington and dampened wildfires that had grown out of control in hot dry weather.
The operations coordinator for the Central Washington Interagency Communications Center in East Wenatchee, Jim Duck, says significant rain is helping firefighters get a handle on some of the large fires in particular.
The National Weather Service had issued a flash flood warning for flooding, debris flows and mudslides for areas in Chelan and Douglas counties, including Entiat, Manson and Lake Chelan State Park.
Chelan County Emergency Management spokesman Rich Magnussen says there have been some minor washouts and debris across roads in the Manson area, but no significant property damage.
The Wenatchee World reported that Pangborn Memorial Airport recorded nearly an inch of rain in half an hour.
