Letter: Crossing viable for expanding area

The Columbian
Published: August 17, 2014, 5:00pm

In spite of all of the negative comments regarding the M&M boys, I think that Clark County Commissioner David Madore has come up with a sensible, viable solution to a third bridge across the Columbia River. He has suggested building a bridge in east county across Government Island, then across to Oregon, with a span high enough for ships to pass under. Most of the population has indicated that light rail is not a practical solution for this area. A good bus system would be better.

East county is developing with new industries, with many new housing projects already being built. Areas north and west of Vancouver are experiencing the same expansion. I read that the local rock quarry is being considered for more housing and business. A bridge in this area would take a lot of pressure off Interstate 5 and Interstate 205. I hope that east county will be considered for the third bridge across the Columbia.
