An Oregon driver is being evaluated at a Vancouver hospital after he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and caused a two-vehicle crash early this morning on Interstate 205.

Elijah Wynne, 21, of Milwaukie, Ore., was driving a 1988 Buick Electra south on the highway near 134th Street in Vancouver when the vehicle in front of him, a 1995 Nissan pickup, experienced a mechanical issue and began slowing, according to Washington State Patrol.

Wynne failed to slow and rear-ended the pickup about 2:30 a.m., according to troopers. He was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Cente,r where he is being evaluated by medical personnel.

The driver of the pickup, Paul Ebert, 26, of Shelton, was not injured.

State patrol said that driver fatigue caused the crash and that Wynne faces a charge of second-degree negligent driving.
