Sunday’s fire at Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Hazel Dell was human-caused, the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office determined.

Investigators haven’t released additional details about the fire, such as whether it was accidentally or intentionally set.

The fire at the church, 6902 N.E. Hazel Dell Ave., started outside the west side of the building, which is the back of the church, and traveled up the vinyl siding into the attic.

The blaze, reported at 12:39 a.m. Sunday, caused an estimated $1.5 million damage to the structure and its contents. Human-caused doesn’t necessarily mean arson, said Susan Anderson, Clark County senior deputy fire marshal.

“We’re still investigating into the exact circumstances,” she said.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the fire marshal’s office at 360-397-2186 ext. 3321.
